- Prefers experience with “Power Designer” (which is a Sybase product) however he will take experience with Erwin (must).

Data Modeller



PURPOSE

The Data Management Architecture team within Shared Services IT requires an additional Data Modeller to jointly lead the data modelling effort for a number of key transformational projects. The focus of the Data Management Architecture IT (DMIT) team is to provide consistent, standardised transaction and valuation data to the control functions - Operations, Risk, Finance and Compliance - and consistent, standardised client, instrument and organizational reference data to all of RBC Capital Markets. The Data Architecture team plays the lead role in the process of gathering data requirements and their distillation into standardised, coherent logical data models. Key transformational projects requiring data modelling expertise include:

End of Day Contract (EODc) project, this is a contract that standardizes the data definition content and delivery format of data between the Front Office and Back Office for the valuation of end of day positions.

Intraday Contract (IDc), the focus is on the delivery of standardised, industry compliant, intraday real-time XML trade messages.

BCBS 239 (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision) Risk aggregation project is dependent on very complete, accurate static reference data.



The Data Modeller will be required to collate consumer (Risk, Finance & Operations) requirements, research trade message standards (eg FpML, FIXML) and the creation/maintenance of standardised logical data models to support the associated data flows from Front Office to Back Office. The modeller will be responsible for the maintenance of the conceptual and logical data models in PowerDesigner. The modeller will be responsible for the articulation of the data models to supplier and consumer Business and IT groups. The modeller will also be required to provide modelling estimates during the initial planning phase of every project.



The data modeler will report directly to the Senior Data Architect.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Analysis

• Research industry data modeling standards for Capital Market products - Equity Derivatives, Credit Deriavtives, Commodities, Loans & Deposits, Repos and Securtiy Finance, Structured Products etc.

• Determine what data sets are required by Back Office consumers, determine what data sets are available from Front Office data suppliers, work with SMEs in both groups to reach agreement on the content of each data model.

• Determine standard product representation for each product class

• Assist Project Managers with formalizing project plans including resource and cost estimates

• Demonstrate clear understanding of each conceptual and logical data model and articulate the intent and vision of each model through consumer and supplier model walkthroughs

• Validate that the data architecture strategy aligns with overall Data Management service deliveries

• Contribute to improving the Data Management data models



JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education/Experience (to enter position)

University Degree. Preferably Business/Technology

10+ years hands on andata modelling experience in high pressure environment

7+ years managing business analysis and data modelling projects deliverables in financial service industry

- Logical data modeling - experience of logical data models is essential including the maintenance of XSD schemas

- Proven experience in trades, positions, valuations and reference data deliveries at Tier 1 banks or data providers



Process Knowledge

- Communication and negotiation skills

- Presentation and facilitation skills



Business Knowledge

- Good understanding of Capital Markets products is required

- Expertise in data management projects including transaction, position and valuation data and reference data (Trade, Valuation, Client, Securities, Market Data etc)

- Exposure to front office and back-office consumers is preferable

- Prior banking experience



Systems Knowledge

- Proven PowerDesigner expertise

- SQL data mining

- Understanding of software development life-cycle knowledge
