The Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid condemned the missile strike on the Kyiv TV tower that stands opposite the Holocaust memorial of Babi Yar, a ravine where Nazi German forces killed 33,000 people, and said they will work with the country's ambassador in Kyiv to repair damage to the site when able.

Mr Lapid said on Twitter: "We condemn the attack on the Jewish cemetery near the memorial site commemorating the Holocaust of the Jews of Kyiv and the murder of the Jewish people in Babi Yar. We call for preserving and respecting the sanctity of the site.

"I instructed the Ambassador in Kyiv to keep in touch with the site management and later when possible we will assist in repairing the damage. We continue to follow the events and express our regret for the injury to human life."

Israel condemns missile strike near Holocaust monument
