Nimoy was born on March 26, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts in the West End,[7] to Yiddish-speaking Orthodox Jewish immigrants from Iziaslav, Soviet Union (now Ukraine).[8][9][10] His mother, Dora (née Spinner), was a homemaker, and his father, Max Nimoy, owned a barbershop in the Mattapan section of the city.[11][12]
