YORKTOWN gained worldwide publicity from operations conducted in the Black Sea. While exercising the "right of innocent passage" through Soviet-claimed territorial waters, a Soviet warship intentionally collided with YORKTOWN, in what some observers have called "the last incident of the Cold War."
