The latest: Postal Service inspector general finds no evidence of voter fraud

Seventeen months after the 2020 election, the U.S. Postal Service’s Inspector General’s office said Tuesday it found no evidence to corroborate allegations that ballots were stolen and transported across state lines from Bethpage, N.Y., to Lancaster, Pa., putting an end to the wild assertion that, among others, undergirded former president Donald Trump’s false claims of election fraud in the aftermath of the presidential contest.

Jesse Morgan, who claimed to have worked for the Postal Service as a subcontractor driver during the election season, first made the allegation.

During a December 2020 news conference held by the Amistad Project of the conservative Thomas More Society, Morgan said he drove hundreds of thousands of fraudulent mail-in ballots across state lines in October. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity the same day, Morgan said it had been 300,000 completed mail-in ballots.

“I can tell you, I took 24 pallets,” Morgan told Hannity. “I picked them up in Bethpage, New York, and drove them to Harrisburg [Pa.] and then from Harrisburg, I drove them to Lancaster, dropped the trailer in Lancaster, dropped my truck off and went home.”

In a report released Tuesday, the Postal Service inspector general, along with the USPS Inspection Service and the FBI, said they found no evidence to corroborate Morgan’s claims.

“Most, if not all the mail contents were packages, not letters or ballots,” the report said.

“Investigators confirmed data records indicated all mail contents were properly transported, accounted for, and processed,” the report said.
