Sergei Loiko, reporter, photographer, translator, and writer, was born in Moscow in 1953.
In 2015, for his work on the war in Ukraine, Sergei Loiko was awarded one of the highest prizes in American journalism, the Overseas Press Club’s Bob Considine Award, “for its guts, credibility, originality, depth and sophistication of interpretation, and its engaging writing style.” This year, he was awarded the prestigious Los Angeles Times editorial award for “Best Reporting in 2014.” He now lives in Texas, USA, and Moscow.
The funds raised through this project will cover the costs of translation of the novel into English. The total cost of the translation is $12,000 but we are asking for only $7,000 as a minimum to create the project.
We are happy to announce that Alexander Cigale is translating AIRPORT! Alex is one of the top American translators of poetry, whose work has appeared in many prestigious literary journals. He is a 2015 NEA Literary Translation Fellow whose first book, Russian Absurd: Selected Writings of Daniil Kharms, is forthcoming in 2017 from Northwestern University Press. We are confident that Sergei Loiko's AIRPORT, as translated by Alexander Cigale, will make a valuable contribution to the discourse on the Russia-Ukraine relationship in the West.
