Harley-Davidson HOG -0.5%’s unveiling of a new electric motorcycle sent serious energy through the industry last week. Shares of Harley-Davidson Inc. rose significantly after the manufacturer unveiled images of “Project LiveWire,” and websites reported record-level traffic after covering the news.

The announcement also created buzz for brands already making electric bikes. ZERO Motorcycles President Scot Harden said web traffic more than doubled the day Harley announced LiveWire, while the company gained more than 200 official inquiries about owning an electric motorcycle. (Representatives from Harley said it was “too early” to guage impact so far.)
