In a statement released on Monday, Saganash announced he would be taking a leave of absence from Parliament to focus on battling an alcohol dependency.

“Neither fatigue nor stress can justify what I did. I need help to overcome a medical problem, a dependence on alcohol, like far too many Canadians,” the statement read, in part.

A stressful week of Canadian politicking was blamed after an apparently intoxicated NDP MP was removed from an Air Canada flight.

Romeo Saganash was escorted from an Air Canada Jazz flight between Montreal and Val-d'Or on Friday after it was determined he was too intoxicated to fly, according to the CBC.
